Job Summary:
The Food Programs Coordinator (FPC) will work in the Center for Community Engaged Leadership, Learning and Research at Bucknell University. Specifically, the FPC will help oversee logistics and coordination of the Community Harvest weekly meal program, and the monthly Snack Pack program (in collaboration with the Lewisburg School District). The FPC reports to the Associate Director and will support and collaborate with the AmeriCorps members to ensure weekly distribution at Community Harvest runs smoothly. This position is a part-time, casual, non-exempt staff position.

Community Harvest is a weekly meal distribution program in MIlton that distributes 165-170 meals per week. These two food programs rely heavily on volunteers. The FPC helps to recruit and retain Bucknell University faculty, staff and students, community groups, and local organizations to assist in these tasks and directs volunteers on-site.

Some Bucknell University professional development opportunities will be available to the FPC, including training around Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Community Engaged Learning. Other benefits include access to Bucknell's facilities including the gym, library, pool and reduced prices for Bucknell events.

Job Duties:

Primary duties include:

Community Harvest:
  • Serve as the point person to lead the weekly meal prep/cooking and distribution at Community Harvest, including recruiting, communicating, and managing AmeriCorps and volunteers on-site.
  • Coordinate annual food donation, fundraising & awareness programs in collaboration with Associate Director and other AmeriCorps. These events include Turkey & Trimmings, and Empty Bowls.


Food Management:
  • Ensure proper storage and timely distribution of produce and extra Community Harvest meals to prevent food waste and conduct monthly food pantry and on-campus storage inventory.


Volunteer Outreach/Recruitment/Management:
  • Recruit, oriend and facilitate volunteers to provide on-site support for the Community Harvest and Snack Pack program (which serves 340 students).
  • Help record volunteer attendance at programs with the Engaged Bucknell platform.


Logistics and Office Duties:
  • Completing office tasks such as email, updating google docs/spreadsheets, and participating in regular meetings with supervisor and other AmeriCorp members
  • Coordinate weekly logistics of the program including planning meals (scaling up recipes), ordering and picking up groceries, prepping the kitchen, guiding volunteers and arranging transportation for AmeriCorps members.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Driver's License
  • High school diploma or GED
  • FBI, State Criminal Background Check, and Child Abuse clearances
  • Experience recruiting and coordinating volunteers
  • Interest in community food system
  • Comfortable working in an outdoor setting
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Flexibility, problem-solving skills, and open to feedback
  • Comfort with Zoom, Google docs, Excel or applicable software etc. and/or willingness to learn.
  • Experience cooking.
  • Willingness to complete ServSafe training within the first 60 days.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience cooking large quantities of food, a plus!
  • Experience with event management a plus!


Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to drive
  • Ability to lift, bend, and carry objects.
  • Ability to move around campus and community to complete tasks.


Required hours:

Total hours a week will be about 15-16, not to exceed 20 hours a week (6 hours at Community Harvest on Mondays, including taking excess food to the Food Hub in Lewisburg, 3-4 hours of volunteer outreach, recruitment, management, 3-4 hours of preparation for the meal each week, 1-2 hours logistics/extra tasks/meetings).

Sample Weekly Schedule:

Weekends: Order groceries online (via your schedule)

Mondays from 10am-6pm

Tuesdays-Fridays: Flexible, will be required to be in-office for team meetings and other activities.

Other hours might be required during the work day due to attending applicable meetings and events.

The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.
