(Primary Location for Job Responsibilities) Our Kennesaw campus is located at 1000 Chastain Road NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144.

Our Marietta campus is located at 1100 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060.

Job Summary

Responsible for the oversight in the areas of contract negotiations, research related agreement drafting, award set up, and building and maintaining positive relations with internal and external customers and partner various KSU offices. Responsible for analyzing and interpreting policy and procedures related to research contract administration and developing and disseminating research contract administration-related information to the campus. Builds and maintains partnering relationships with internal stakeholders and other operational departments while acting as a liaison with sponsors. Supervises assigned staff of the contracts team.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Manages and supervises the day-to-day activities of a team within the Contracts unit
2. Fosters a cohesive team that works collaboratively to achieve the unit's goals
3. With the Associate Director, oversees the recruitment, performance, mentoring, and training of team members
4. Assists with the development and implementation of applicable policies and procedures for contract intake, review, and management as well as subrecipient monitoring and other contract related areas
5. Assists the Associate Director with important Sponsored Programs initiatives
6. Develops work process improvements to meet critical timelines and expectations.
7. Reviews contract drafts and negotiations for all research related agreements for secondary review prior to final signature
8. Demonstrates leadership by providing oversight, guidance, and technical expertise on complex contract negotiation, review, and management
9. Serves on appropriate University committees as required
10. Works closely with KSU Legal Division
11. Advise, resolve problems and answer questions from faculty, staff, granting agencies, and auditors regarding compliance issues
12. Provides a high level of customer service to faculty, staff, and granting agencies via problem solving or conflict resolution
13. Distributes information on process and policy changes impacting sponsored programs to university stakeholders.
14. Serves as backup in the absence of unit leadership
15. Helps maintains institutional and sponsor system data

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education

Required Experience
Five (5) years of experience in grant award and/or contract management and review within a university, a non-profit institution, or academic medical centers setting, including supervisory experience
Experience reviewing applicable federal statutes and regulations, including a strong understanding of laws and regulations related to research and sponsored activities including Uniform Guidance 2 CFR 200, federal agency specific regulations, and non-federal sponsor guidelines

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Certified Research Administrator (CRA)

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education

Preferred Experience
Familiarity with government contracting concepts, including FAR, DFARs, and various contract vehicles
Experience with Cayuse or using electronic grants management systems a plus
Experience using project management software to organize workflow a plus

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

ABILITIES
Desire and ability to provide outstanding service to faculty and staff
Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines

KNOWLEDGE
Strong knowledge of federal grant regulations (2 CRF 200) required
Strong background in contract review and negotiation

SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite)
Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
