Facilities Services' responsibilities include Interior and Exterior Facilities Support, Construction, Space Management, and Environmental Services.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Director, Landscaping and Grounds, this position provides stewardship and enhancement of Augusta University's physical environment. Oversees designs, budgets, estimates, and schedules of landscaping projects, manage landscape project installations, manages landscape and hardscape resources, coordinates campus mitigation and restoration activities related to construction and adverse weather events, manages university tree inventory and plant materials assets, and provides general guidance related to the outdoor environment. Oversees professional design consultants ensuring landscape designs meet established university standards.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Landscape Planning, Design, & Construction:

Reviews and coordinates all aspects of landscape & hardscape areas of all AU locations. Documents and inventories existing plant beds, trees & hardscape features.

Provides oversight for work performed by AU landscaping and grounds staff providing direction, ensuring work is performed at a safe level and staff assignments are communicated in a clear manner.

Prepares conceptual site plans, landscape design plans, and specifications for construction and maintenance projects.

Review qualifications & collaborate on the selection of landscape design consultants.

Reviews design documents completed by design consultants with respect to the physical environment.

Performs construction site inspections related to site work and landscape installations by in-house landscaping and grounds staff and third-party contractors ensuring compliance with design intent and standards.

Presents planning and design options and recommendations to senior leadership to move through the concept, planning, execution and completion process.

Solicits quotes and competitive bids from vendors.

Participate in committees and individual meetings with academic and administrative units of the university as needed.

Serve as the primary backup to the director, provide leadership & oversee Landscaping and Grounds staff during periods when the director is unavailable.

Assists Operations leadership with recruitment/hiring of new staff as well as specific guidance for individual performance concerns.

Assists in on-going recruitment efforts to maintain high levels of Grounds staffing.

Oversees training of Grounds' staff related to techniques and safe use of tools and materials related to their primary job duties of installing new plantings and maintaining existing areas.

Reviews and provides comments on proposed designs of landscaped areas in collaboration with Facilities' Planning Design & Construction projects.

Site and Landscape Design:

Provides support related to the design, maintenance, installation, and inspection of landscape and hardscape construction projects including repairs and preventative maintenance to campus pedestrian paths, bicycle lanes/paths, sidewalks, irrigation systems, and landscape improvements.

Develops detailed landscape plans and specifications for project conceptual phase.

Reviews project submittals related to site and landscape work, reviews mockups, participates in planning and design review meetings and creates project punch lists.

Develops conceptual design cost estimates for landscape improvement projects.

Provides oversight for maintaining landscape fixtures including retaining and decorative walls, water features, and other hard-scape areas.

Assists with response to inclement weather events that create debris and damage to university grounds.

Communications:

Consistently provide professional, accurate, tactful, and timely written and verbal communications to Facilities and other university staff.

Establishes and maintains positive, respectful, collaborative working relationships with all levels of Augusta University staff.

Develop and lead group presentations and meetings including work groups and committees as assigned.

Provides status updates on Grounds' Improvement Program and other initiatives as directed.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in landscape architecture, horticulture, land planning or related field and 3+ years of experience with progressive levels of responsibilities and leadership related to leading a highly efficient institutional or commercial landscape design, maintenance, and care organization.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in landscape architecture, horticulture, land planning or related field and minimum of ten (10) years of experience leading an institutional facility landscape organization. American Society of Landscape Architects License (ASLA) or able to obtain within 1st year of employment.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge

Knowledge of institutional facilities management and operations including program management, design, construction, energy conservation, USG methods, and infrastructure as related to a university campus.

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases

SKILLS

Must be forward-thinking, actively seek opportunities and propose solutions, demonstrate an orientation toward action.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days/M-F (work outside of the normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position)

Pay Band: 10

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position

Conditions of Employment
