Position Summary
The Elon Academy, part of the Elon University Center for Access and Success, is a non-profit college access and success program for academically promising high school students in Alamance County with financial need and/or no family history of college. Reporting to the Associate Director of the Elon Academy, the Assistant Director will be primarily responsible for recruitment and selection efforts, the College Visit Program, student leadership and development initiatives, and programmatic support for the Elon Academy. The Assistant Director will also lead our high school sophomores to support their personal and professional development, increase their college knowledge and preparedness, promote academic excellence, develop their holistic well-being, and create community and connection.

Minimum Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree
Prior experience in area(s) of college access; college advising; college admissions; student instruction, mentorship and advising; and/or other educational nonprofits
Strong interpersonal, public speaking, communication, and writing skills
Demonstrated commitment to promoting educational equity for underrepresented students
Preferred Education and Experience
Master's degree in Education, Public Service, or another relevant field
Experience in and knowledge of Alamance County, NC; the Alamance-Burlington School System; and NC public and private universities and colleges
Spanish fluency is highly desired - conversation speaking and writing/translating
Job Duties
- Recruitment & Selection - Lead annual comprehensive recruitment efforts including, but not limited to marketing, events, info sessions, and school sessions - Oversee the annual comprehensive selection process including application and essay review, communication efforts, group interview coordination, and individual interviews - Develop and maintain strong partnerships with staff and administration in the Alamance-Burlington School System (ABSS), as well as local public, charter, and private schools, including working closely with local middle and high school guidance counselors, to increase awareness and participation in the Elon Academy, enhance recruitment and outreach efforts, ensure effective collaboration, and create a network of support for students - Provide support to the Advocate program to engage local school personnel in supporting student success and Elon Academy recruitment efforts - Engage with local organizations, businesses, and community agencies to promote opportunities, support student development, and increase awareness of the Elon Academy
- Sophomore Scholar Support - Develop, lead, and teach the summer course and Saturday Academy sessions for high school sophomores to support their personal and professional development, increase their college knowledge and preparedness, promote academic excellence, develop their holistic well-being, and create community and connection - Provide ongoing support for high school sophomores' successes and challenges throughout the year including, but not limited to monthly individual meetings, maintaining academic and support files, monitoring academic and college prep progress through personal contact with Scholars, their families, and high school personnel - Mentor, support, and partner with a group of College Access Team (CAT) Mentors, who are paid Elon University student employees who serve as student leaders to mentor the high school sophomores throughout the academic year
- Student Leadership Development - Lead a variety of student leadership and employment initiatives including the recruitment, selection, training, development, supervision, and evaluation for College Access Team Mentors - Oversee all student leadership and employment initiatives aspects within the Academic Coaching Program, which includes the recruitment, selection, training, development, supervision, and evaluation - Provide support to other student leadership and employment initiatives as needed
- Program Development & Event Planning - Support the Associate Director to design and implement Elon Academy programming initiatives focused on student success, including but not limited to communication, marketing, assessment, family programming and engagement, etc. - Plan and coordinate all aspects of the College Visit Program in the summer and throughout the academic year including, but not limited to coordination with various universities, travel logistics, expenses, Scholar participation, communication, and day-of itineraries -Provide key support in the logistics and event planning processes for to on- and off-campus experiences
- Other duties as assigned - Collaborate with the Elon Academy Team and the Center for Access and Success staff members - Attend and present at professional forums and conferences regionally and nationally as appropriate - Stay informed of changing policies, challenges, and opportunities for underserved populations to best advise Scholars - Perform other duties as assigned
