The Enrollment Services and Student Equity departments of the Long Beach Community College District are seeking qualified individuals for current opportunities as Program Manager Categorical. While this position requires that the incumbent be knowledgeable of the District's policies and procedures related to student support services, additional specialized knowledge and experience may be necessary in alignment with the specific population/program that the manager will be serving. Specifically, LBCC is recruiting for two program manager, categorical positions as follows: 1) Veteran Services and Programs and 2) Systems Impacted Programs - Justice Scholars and Phoenix Scholars. The Veteran Services program manager will provide coordination and oversight of activities for students with a veteran or military status and for eligible dependents receiving benefits from the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs. The Systems Impacted Manager will help to implement key initiatives and activities that support the success of formerly incarcerated, gang impacted, and systems impacted students.

We are looking for someone who has obtained Bachelor's Degree in education, guidance or counseling, psychology, or related discipline that will enable successful job performance. Additionally, this candidate must have two (2) years of program-based experience, including progressive experience addressing complex and responsible project management and coordinating activities, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.   • *Eligibility list: Will be valid for 6 months once approved or ratified by the Personnel Commission. We reserve the right to use the established eligibility list for vacancies (permanent and temporary) in this classification as well as related classifications
  • Advanced salary placement: Generally, new employees start at the first step on the salary schedule. Advanced salary placement may be considered on a case-by-case basis; however, please note that requests are typically capped at Step 3.

Duties


GENERAL PURPOSE

Plans, organizes, supervises, coordinates, controls, and evaluates the operations and activities of the District's categorical programs such as, but not limited to, Student Equity Achievement and Student Success and Support programs, under the direction of an assigned administrator. Interviews, advises, and assists students enrolled in the programs; provides information to students and the public regarding categorical programs; and services and performs related duties as assigned.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSThe Program Manager, Categorical, plans, manages, and implements District-wide categorical programs and services. In that regard, the position provides administrative and technical management and coordination of categorical programs. The incumbent must be aware of student issues and sensitivities within the framework of established policies, procedures, and guidelines and, accordingly, must carry out responsibilities independently and in a professional and sensitive manner at all times.

Qualifications


Education, Training and Experience:

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
May require a valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance policy.

Meeting the minimum requirements of the position does not guarantee advancement in the selection process. Candidate qualifications will be assessed to determine those who meet and exceed requirements, and are deemed most competitive amongst the applicant pool to proceed.
