About the Department:

The BBA Academic Advising and Records office works with all undergraduate business majors and minors.

About the Position:

This role is an on-campus, in-person position.

Provide academic advising for Cox majors and business premajors, as assigned. Advise on business majors and all other majors/minors. Assist with Advising Office activities as required.

Essential Functions:

  • BBA student and business premajor academic advising, including understanding of SMU degree and graduation requirements, degree planning for business majors and other majors/minors, maintenance of appropriate advising records, and assistance with transfer student processing, transfer and education abroad credit issues, and identifying BBA students in academic difficulty.

  • Assist in all areas of graduation processing and with graduation ceremonies.

  • Assist with scheduling of BBA classes, updating internal BBA forms and procedures; other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

A Bachelor's degree is required. A Master's degree is preferred.

A minimum of two years' full-time work experience in a university setting is required. Experience working in university academic advising is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.

Candidate familiarity working with a diverse student population is preferred.

Candidate proficiency in Microsoft Office is essential. Knowledge of PeopleSoft is a plus.
