Posting Context Statement:
The primary responsibility is to oversee and manage all greenhouse and field research operations for the University of Idahos Pale Cyst Nematode (PCN, Globodera pallida) research program on the Moscow Campus as part of a multi-state collaborative effort to eradicate PCN in Idaho under the direction of the PCN Project Director. The position also provides research and technical support for collaborative projects. This position is supported by federal USDA-APHIS, USDA-ARS, and USDA-NIFA funds, state funds, and commodity groups.

Position Overview:
Performs research activities and analysis; implements, evaluates and recommends adjustments to research procedures. Responsible for synthesizing and independently preparing results for publication. Works under general supervision with a significant degree of creativity and latitude. May coordinate research operations and the daily activities of junior research personnel.
Duties may include:
  • Participate in planning and/or designing of major scientific projects, studies, or applications
  • Plan and conduct research and analysis of scientific data
  • Prepare graphic and narrative reports
  • Interpret test results and comparing with determined standards and limits
  • Perform site inspections and field oversight if field work is required
  • Plan, design, develop, monitor and/or evaluate a distinct portion of a scientific project, study or application
  • Research, design, implement, standardize, and evaluate new procedures
  • Maintain detailed records of results and prepares written reports acceptable to the Principal Investigator and funding agencies
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Experience:
  • Two years of research experience beyond receipt of Masters Degree related to the domain of this position

Required Education:
  • M.S. Degree in Plant Science, Plant Pathology, Nematology, or related science field

Required Other:
  • Possess a valid drivers license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university-owned vehicles

Additional Preferred:
  • Research:
    • Experience in planning, conducting, and analyzing research, including experimental design and statistical analysis
    • Experience with regulatory processes and working with quarantine pests
  • Data & Reporting: Skilled in interpreting test results, preparing reports, and evaluating regulatory submittals
  • Project Coordination: Oversight of greenhouse/field experiments and managing simultaneous projects
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to make independent decisions, develop solutions, and evaluate samples for further testing
  • Implementation & Presentation: Experience with new procedures and delivering scientific presentations
  • Collaboration: Coauthoring peer-reviewed manuscripts and working in research teams

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
  • Ability to lift, carry and/or otherwise move up to 20 lbs
