POSITION PURPOSE: The Office of Study Abroad and Fulbright Programs operates inbound and outbound study abroad programs to bring more diversity to the campus.

The Global Outreach Advisor, under general supervision of the Director, Study Abroad and Fulbright Programs, provides essential and comprehensive support for the Exchange Program and International Student Services, facilitating global engagement opportunities for students while ensuring smooth operation and compliance with visa guidelines. The incumbent promotes and advises on study abroad programs, coordinates events, and guides both outbound and inbound students through various tasks. The role involves maintaining effective communication with students, faculty, and partner universities, and ensuring all documentation and procedures are completed accurately and on time. The position also includes responsibilities related to visa compliance and student enrollment, requiring adherence to visa procedures and guidelines. Through these efforts, the position fosters intercultural exchange, supports student development, and promotes regulatory adherence to enhance the university's international programs.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Exchange Program & International Student Services Support
  • Promote study abroad programs (CSU IP, bilateral exchange, Fulbright, FLP) at campus events. Provide guidance to students based on eligibility, deadlines, housing options, and available resources.
  • Coordinate with staff and faculty to arrange lecture visits and information sessions for prospective outbound students, providing comprehensive program information.
  • Guide domestic students through the application process for study abroad programs, performing unit conversions, course load enrollment, and identifying competitive scholarship opportunities. Ensure all documentation is completed within set deadlines.
  • Assist the Director in communicating with the Fulbright academic advisor and FLP lead faculty.
  • Act as a point of contact for partner universities regarding inbound exchange nomination, addressing questions within scope and escalating when necessary.
  • Assist the Director to maintain the balanced partner exchange numbers with overseas bilateral partners.
  • Prepare risk and safety paperwork and ensure it is completed on time for outbound exchange students. Collect the completed and signed documents from outbound exchange students.
  • Route learning agreements to department chairs for outbound student enrollment, addressing procedural inquiries as needed.
  • Collect credit transfer and ensure proper documentation is submitted upon program completion and forward the signed agreements to the EEGO registrar in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate with appropriate departments to secure student travel insurance and course registrations for faculty-led programs.
  • Submit registration paperwork for inbound exchange and Semester at CSUB students to the EEGO Records and Enrollment Specialist.
  • Help inbound exchange and ALI students with housing early check-ins, transportation, and term dates, following set procedures.
  • Track dormitory supplies for inbound students and reorder as needed within budgetary limits.
  • Regularly update the Study Abroad and ISP website content with current program information, deadlines, and events as directed by supervisors and maintain the program's social media presence.
  • Collect data on program interest and participation and present it to the Director and relevant personnel as requested.
  • Maintain correspondence with the Chancellor's Office regarding International Programs (IP) inquiries, updates, or changes, and fulfill CSU IP Coordinator administrative tasks as required.
  • Participate in IP training sessions and related conferences to stay updated on program changes and professional best practices.

International Student Compliance & Visa Support
  • Serve as Designated School Official (DSO) to generate/issue I-20s for F-1 visas and ensure compliance with U.S. federal government SEVIS regulations.
  • Conduct mandatory J-1 and F-1 visa orientations and support inbound students in maintaining full-time enrollment to comply with visa requirements.
  • Maintain course registration for inbound fee-paying students, securing instructor approvals and ensuring compliance with program requirements.
  • Identify community service opportunities for international students who are required by their home universities or programs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE - Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or job-related field and two (2) years of recent related experience. Specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the appropriate knowledge and abilities may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. A master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.

LICENSES -
  • Possession of a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
  • Completion of the campus safe driver education and the powered cart operating training.
  • Current or former (within 2 years) designation as a DSO (Designated School Official) on SEVIS.

  • Working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University infrastructure.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A graduate degree in a related field such as education, languages and literatures and student services.
  • Study or work abroad experiences and/or some proficiency in other languages than English.
  • Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment utilizing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: LIGHT WORK - involves mainly sitting, up to 25% standing or walking; lifting medium weight objects limited to 25 pounds.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

SCREENING: Only those applicants possessing experience most directly related to the immediate needs of the office will be invited to appear before a Qualifications Appraisal Board for the purpose of appraising training, experience, and interest in the position.
