About the Position:

Student Business Services is part of the Division of Administration and Finance. We operate as our university's cashiers and collect, allocate, and safeguard funds between students, banks, other departments, and various external sources. Account specialists are available to offer private consultation and personalized meetings to find payment solutions. Our customer service centers are ready to answer inquiries about student financial accounts and other related issues. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Collections Representative II. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

The Collections Specialist provides oversight to the university accounts receivable which include Extension and International Programs. Maintain a clear, student-centered philosophy and acts as the primary contact for the programs. Responsible for researching, investigating, analyzing, and following up on student questions, while, at the same time, providing excellent customer service and advice to students, parents, and university departments regarding Cal State Fullerton, state and federal collection policies and procedures. Maintains confidentially and adheres to Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) privacy guidelines while reporting accurate financial data and details to staff, students, faculty, and other customers. Utilizes in-depth knowledge of Cal State Fullerton campus policies and procedures to complete assignments. Keeps up to date on industry standards and implements them when applicable. Interfaces with Heartland ECSI's SAL system to service loans and provides entrance and exit counseling. Processes deferments, cancellations, and rehabilitation. Assists with tuition, health center, and housing collection letters and phone calls. Works with collection agencies. Helps prepare annual Franchise Tax Board notices. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Two years of general office, clerical, or financial record-keeping experience which has provided the required knowledge and abilities. Successful completion of a CSU campus training program in financial record keeping may be substituted for the required experience. A combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.

General knowledge of financial recordkeeping methods, procedures, and practices, as well as arithmetic and general office procedures. Familiarity with, or the ability to learn, governmental financial record-keeping methods. Ability to review financial documents for accuracy, completeness, validity, and adherence to standards. Ability to compute and post figures rapidly and accurately, maintain files and records, and identify, trace and correct errors. Ability to follow directions and interpret and apply written rules and regulations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to exercise tact, courtesy, alertness, and sound judgment in responding to others. Ability to operate standard office machines such as calculators, adding machines, date stamps, typewriters and/or word processors. Ability to use personal computers and automated accounting systems. Ability to read and write in English at a level appropriate to the position.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Three years of increasingly responsible financial record-keep experience, including two years in collections, lending, or a related field.
