Posting Context Statement:

Position Overview:
This position oversees the Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) Shop. The position performs a variety of supervisory and program management responsibilities, as well as HVAC services.

This is an essential position that will be called upon in the event of an emergency and/or university closure.

Duties may include:
  • Manage campus HVAC/R services
  • Create and assign service requests and work orders for the HVAC/R Shop
  • Manage and assist with service requests with Machine Shop
  • Coordinate work performed by HVAC/R staff
  • Coordinate work performed between Machine Shop and campus partners
  • Ensure the work of HVAC/R staff and contractors complies with building and safety codes
  • Prepare and/or approve administrative reports
  • Guide employee performance through training, coaching, evaluation, reinforcement and discipline
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Experience:
  • Five years as an HVAC/R Journeyman
  • One year working with refrigerants
  • Four years supervising, providing instruction, participating in or leading a team, or delegating work to others

Required Education:
  • None

Required Other:
  • Possess a State of Idaho Limited Energy License or HVAC Journeyman license or advanced education in a related field
  • Possess a universal certification for handling refrigerants or be able to acquire one within twelve months
  • Possess a valid drivers license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university-owned vehicles
  • Ability to respond to emergency calls within one hour and serve on weekend call-out duty on a regular rotation

Additional Preferred:
  • Ten years in the HVAC or refrigeration trades
  • Experience utilizing FAMIS or other computer-based data management system for facilities maintenance record-keeping
  • Experience with Siemens BMS programing control systems
  • Good knowledge of State of Idaho HVAC regulatory requirements
  • Good knowledge of and experience with construction industry practices
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary to minimize injury to staff and/or damage to equipment

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
Must be able to:
  • Bend, stoop and work in awkward positions for several hours at a time
  • Climb and work from ladders, scaffolding and scissor lifts
  • Carry, lift or otherwise move items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Work in confined spaces using equipment and appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Work in inclement weather conditions
  • Participate in a medical surveillance program and respirator fit test
