Job Summary
Augusta University (AU), a comprehensive research university and Georgia's designated health sciences and medical university invites nominations, inquiries, and applications for a visionary and strategic academic leader with a proven commitment to excellence to serve as its next Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost (Provost). Reporting directly to the President and serving on the President's Executive Cabinet, the Provost serves as the Chief Academic Officer of the university and works collaboratively with the President, Executive Vice Presidents, Vice Presidents, and Deans to further the academic mission with a focus upon faculty and student success. This is a tenure track, administrative faculty with rank position. We are seeking a candidate at Professor rank.
Responsibilities
Serving as the institution's Chief Academic Officer, the Provost will play a central role in enhancing academic excellence and aligning priorities within the university's strategic plan. The Provost is responsible for the articulation of the university's vision of academic distinction; the development and administration of academic programs; policies relating to instruction, curriculum, and distance learning; faculty and academic staff appointments and performance assessments; and scholarship and community service initiatives among faculty. Other major responsibilities include:
- Academic Leadership:
The Provost will be an enthusiastic spokesperson for AU with internal and external constituencies with the charge of leading and fortifying an environment of belonging at all levels of the university by advancing Augusta University's vision, mission, and core values. The Provost, in tandem with the Division of Academic Affairs, will oversee and ensure the effective management of academic operations, including curriculum development, program assessment, faculty support, and the alignment of academic offerings with institutional goals and student needs, while supporting research, scholarly, and creative activities of faculty and students. The Provost will promote collaborative decision-making and transparency, which should involve the campus community as partners in decision-making processes as they help to set and meet the highest standards.
- Strengthening Infrastructure:
The Provost will demonstrate strategic planning, administration, and fiscal management to develop and manage budgets for academic programs and initiatives, including ensuring the efficient allocation of resources to support instructional quality, research, and student success while maintaining fiscal accountability and sustainability.
- Encouraging Collaboration:
Working with the President and university leadership, the Provost will nurture relationships and entrepreneurship, including developing partnerships and fostering positive relations with foundations, granting agencies, university alumni, and legislative representatives at local, state, national, and/or international levels.
- Faculty Development and Support:
The Provost will grow and develop a vibrant and representative faculty, administration, and staff and work with the Provost's leadership team to enhance morale through mentorship, professional development, equitable workloads, and transparent tenure and promotion processes while promoting academic excellence in degree programs and in teaching, research, and service of faculty. This will include leveraging partnerships with colleges, schools, departments, and other units across campus to enhance the quality of the faculty life and promote a culture of faculty excellence.
- Student Success:
To foster an environment that promotes student success, holistic development, and engagement, the Provost will coordinate and lead collaborative initiatives, high-impact learning experiences, and dynamic instruction. This will involve strategic leadership aimed at supporting sustainable enrollment growth, enhancing student retention, and improving graduation rates.
Required Qualifications
- Academic Credentials and Experience:
- An earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution
- A robust record of teaching, scholarship, and service sufficient for an appointment at the rank of full professor in one of the university's departments
- A minimum of ten years of higher education experience
- Broad-based experience in academic administration, preferably at the dean level or above, ideally within an institution affiliated with an academic health center, and experience with undergraduate teaching/programming
- Leadership and Management Skills:
- Strong fiscal acumen and experience with strategic resource planning and allocation
- Proven experience in leading change, strategic planning, vision-casting, and implementing growth initiatives
- A strategic and forward-thinking mindset, with a "builder" mentality
- Demonstrated ability to manage complexity, work collaboratively, seek partnerships, and enhance resources
- Support for Academic Excellence:
- A record of fostering teaching excellence, innovation, professional development, and scholarly activity
- Student-centered, with a deep passion for enhancing the student experience
- Ability to skillfully hire, promote, and retain talented faculty and staff
- Proven success in championing research initiatives and fostering innovation

Professor- Senior level career faculty member; per Board of Regents (BOR) policy, Professors must have a terminal degree.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
Evidence of ability as a teacher;
Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
