Position Summary:
The purpose of this position is to support the Director of Undergraduate Education Programs and ARC in managing the programs. The person in this position will have day-to-day oversight of the Alternative Route to Certification (ARC) program and will engage in program development activity related to course curriculum design and revisions, hiring of faculty, National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation, and staying informed and up to date with any OEC (Office of Early Childhood) or CSDE (CT State Department of Education) changes to teacher education program requirements. The position also completes all work requirements of the Senior Associate Academic Advisor by advising students in their respective programs.
Example of Job Duties:
Under the direction of the Director of the Early Childhood Education Department, the Assistant Director will be responsible for the duties listed below. The following examples of duties illustrate the general range of tasks assigned to the position but are not intended to define the limits of required duties. Other essential duties may be assigned consistent with the general scope of the position.
Maintains oversight of the ARC Program.
Recruits new students, processes ARC applications, accepts ARC students and advises ARC students Coordinates ARC course schedule.
Works with the Director to hire faculty, schedule faculty to teach, and evaluate faculty performance.
Coordinate the updating of curriculum.
Organizes accreditation and key assessment tracking of data and reports as applicable to accrediting
agencies.
Prepares and submits all reports to regulatory agencies as required.
Advises students in the undergraduate degree programs.
Supports the Director of Early Childhood Education in overseeing the department.
Attends meetings of the Office of Early Childhood and the CT State Department of Education, as well as other
state-wide committees that focus on early childhood education or K-12 education.
Other duties as assigned in support of the overall mission of the education programs at Charter Oak State
College.
The incumbent typically performs work in offices, conference rooms and in locations where groups of students, faculty and staff gather. The work does not, normally, involve any significant physical effort. The incumbent may be required to travel to schools and early childhood programs within the State of Connecticut as well as travel to regional or national meetings and conferences.
Supervisory and Other Relationships.
- Oversee adjunct faculty and other professionals in respective areas.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree
- CT teacher certification in early childhood or special education
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. preferred.
- Three or more years of college teaching experience in early childhood, special education, or human growth and development.
- Knowledge of NAEYC Professional Standards and Competencies for Early Childhood Educators
Starting Salary:
Minimum Salary; $74,546 approximate annual, plus excellent State of CT medical insurance, retirement, and related fringe benefits. The salary will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications such as education and job-related experience, and internal equity.
