Job Summary:
Reporting to the Director of the Recreational Sports Department (RSD), the Recreation Manager-Operations & Student Programs is responsible for departmental programs including Welcome Weekends, Outdoor Adventures, Social Media and Special Events. The Recreation Manager-Operations & Student Programs supervises approximately 60 student staff positions within the department including utility staff, social media ambassadors, special event staff and trip leaders. Requires a candidate with experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds; ability to flex communication style to multiple cultural environments; excellent written and verbal communication skills; attention to detail; and ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities.

As a member of the Division of Student Life, the Recreation Manager-Operations & Student Programs for the RSD collaborates and cooperates to create leadership and intercultural competence opportunities to support student learning and development in the Jesuit Catholic tradition. The mission of Student Life is to fully support holistic student development within a social justice framework centered in preparing students to be caring, socially responsible citizens in our global and local community.

Full Job Description:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Supervise Utility Staff
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, train, manage, evaluate and perform payroll for student staff utility positions (workout floor monitors, equipment desk attendant & check-in desk attendant)
  • Work with other professional staff members in the RSD to develop in-house job training for staff positions
  • Provide on-site supervision and support to utility positions (workout floor monitors, equipment desk attendant & check-in desk attendant)
  • Work with the Director and Operations Manager to develop a departmental staff in-service training, including incentives/rewards program, accountability for staff write-ups and ongoing emergency procedures training.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and constructive feedback to staff. Evaluate staff per RSD evaluation policy procedures and time frame.


Manage Outdoor Adventures and Welcome Weekends Trips
  • Recruit, hire, train, manage, evaluate and perform payroll for student trip leaders.
  • Develop, coordinate, and manage trips from conception to implementation. Collaborate with campus partners to provide Outdoor Adventure programming for USF students, staff and faculty. At the beginning of each semester, provide Welcome Weekend trips to engage and support incoming freshmen and transfer students.
  • Manage event logistics including registration tools, attendee tracking, post-event evaluations, waivers, and event finances.
  • Coordinate event day details such as transportation services and ticket purchases (if applicable).
  • Develop working relationships with campus partners to market programs and increase student engagement and success.
  • Design and distribute promotional materials including posters, social media, apparel, etc.


Manage Social Media
  • Research and coordinate all social media strategies for RSD. Use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Hootsuite and other social media tools to promote RSD programs and services to students, faculty, staff and community members.
  • Work with Fitness Coordinator to create content for social media and marketing
  • Work with Recreation Manager-Club Sports, Intramurals and Youth Camps to create content for social media and marketing
  • Work with the Recreation Manager-Aquatics to create content for social media and marketing
  • Create end of year social media content for Koret staff who are graduating


Coordinate Staffing for RSD Special Events
  • Act as the liaison between RSD staff, Events Management & Guest Services and event stakeholders to ensure successful special events for the department.
  • Establish standardized event procedures and train staff to properly execute to support successful events for the department.
  • Maintain the tracking and reporting of event metrics
  • Coordinate event staffing, setup, access and special accommodations for all special events. Determine and coordinate equipment rental needs in advance (if applicable).


Other Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary point person for responding to inquiries about student staff positions within the RSD. Direct applicants to the appropriate professional staff member depending on experience and certifications (if applicable).
  • Serve on committees as assigned by the Director
  • Participate in department/division activities including meetings and staff development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director
  • Evening and weekend hours required.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required. Masters preferred if in relevant field.
  • A minimum 3-5 years working in recreation, operations, event planning or similar setting. Experience working effectively with diverse college student populations in an urban, multicultural environment.
  • Experience supervising a complex staff with varying job duties and priorities.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to provide direction in promoting and maintaining collaborative relationships with campus and neighborhood constituencies. Excellent communication skills, including written and verbal.
  • Capable of working with internal and external teams and partners.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, accomplish projects with little supervision, and work under strict deadlines
  • CPR/AED Certification.
  • Specific operational knowledge and experience working with various software systems including Customer Relationship Management, Enterprise Resource Planning, Human Capital Management and Web Content Management systems. Working knowledge of Active Net, Concur, Banner, Workday, When to Work, EMS and Drupal are a plus.

$70,00-76,000 annualized salary, commensurate with experience
