The Career Center provides comprehensive career services to all University of North Carolina at Pembroke undergraduate, graduate students, and alumni. The Career Center's goal is to provide high-quality career development programs that are customized to students' developmental and professional needs.
Primary Purpose of Position:
The Associate Director for Experiential Learning will support the Career Center by developing and coordinating experiential learning initiatives that enhance student learning, leadership, and career development.
Job Description:
The Associate Director for Experiential Learning will support the Career Center by developing and coordinating experiential learning initiatives that enhance student learning, leadership, and career development. This position reports to the Executive Director for Career Services and is a staff member in the Division of Student Affairs. This position will develop partnerships with on-campus stakeholders in all divisions to develop curriculum, events, activities, and applied learning experiences, specifically related to on-campus student employment and internships. This position will assess, measure, and evaluate student learning and development outcomes related to these major initiatives.
The Associate Director will:
- Develop curriculum, events, activities, and opportunities related to experiential learning, leadership, and career development
- Coordinate internships and develop updated internship guidelines and handbooks
- Develop relationships with internship sites and facilitate internship agreements
- Create educational content and workshops to further intellectual, social, and personal development related to the importance of engaging in experiential learning opportunities
- Collaborate regularly with academic departments, Center for Student Success, and advising team to integrate career development and experiential learning exploration within academic advising and student success
- Connect with internship coordinators in academic departments to identify needs and opportunities for students
- Provide ongoing education/ reports to faculty internship coordinators, faculty, and staff on post covid career shifts /hiring trends per recruiter strategic initiatives, Internship Calendars during Departmental Meetings, and face-to-face classroom in-services
- Develop and/or enhance equitable surveys to collect current quantitative and qualitative Internship data from each Internship coordinator
- Collaborate with the faculty professional development and academic leadership teams and student services leadership teams to create opportunities for partner access to faculty, advisors, success coaches, and students.
- Collaborate with the Advancement division, academic departments, and all campus constituents to develop reciprocal employer partnerships and a coordinated employer outreach for the campus.
- Track, analyze and report internship outcomes to evaluate program on an annual basis. Assess strategic First Destination Survey, Student, Faculty, and Employer Transformational Surveys.
- Develop onboarding curriculum for student employees and provide professional development for interns
- Develop training for supervisors of student employees and interns
- Coordinate events and services that support experiential learning
- Provide oversight and implementation for leadership education and development specifically related to career readiness, including but not limited to programs like Truist
- Provide ongoing professional development opportunities for student employees and on-campus interns
- Utilize university systems to maintain student files and records related to internships and on-campus employment
- Maintain knowledge of regulations and policies that impact students' educational and career development options
- Assist with planning and coordinating student services events such as career week events, guest speaker panels, and other career-related workshops and programs
- Ensure that students across all colleges and programs have access to experiential learning and career opportunities
- Identify learning outcomes and assessment for on-campus student employment program
- Coordinate with Human Resources and Financial Aid to develop comprehensive and cohesive on-campus student employment initiatives, processes, and procedures
Management Preference:
Knowledge of student development and experience in working directly in a higher education setting for at least three years. Earned Master's degree in Student Affairs or a closely related field preferred. Must be student-oriented and have a commitment to working in a team based, collaborative environment along with the ability to work with a culturally diverse student population.
