Job Summary


The School of Communication, Film, and Media at the University of West Georgia invites applications for a Lecturer in Communication Studies and Director of Debate to begin August 1, 2025.

The successful candidate should be able to teach undergraduate courses related to Communication Studies. Courses will include primarily human communication, public speaking, communicating across cultures, persuasion and social influence, and rhetorical theory and analysis. Ability to teach communication and conflict, communication and gender, health communication in interpersonal contexts, or health communication campaigns is a plus.

The successful candidate will be expected to engage in teaching, service at the School, University, and/or system level, and professional growth and development activity (e.g., research/scholarship, creative activity, and/or professional practice).

Responsibilities






    • Teach undergraduate courses related to communication studies.








    • Direct the UWG Debate Program. Instruct UWG Debate members, including scheduling and attending squad meetings, scheduling and observing practice sessions, listening to student speeches and providing feedback in the form of coaching, and facilitating student preparation for upcoming competitions, etc.








    • Coordinate and travel to tournament competitions, including making travel arrangements such as housing, transportation, tournament registration, etc.; serve as a coach and judge at competitions. Develop and supervise on-campus programming, including public debates, political debate watch parties, and communication training services for campus and external partners. Participate in undergraduate recruiting, alumni relations, and administrative duties to sustain a successful intercollegiate forensics program.








    • Other duties as assigned





Required Qualifications






    • The successful candidate must hold at least a graduate degree in discipline, with preference given to applicants with a terminal degree ( Ph.D.) or applicants with a graduate degree and considerable professional experience.








    • Documented experience coaching debate students at the intercollegiate or interscholastic level required.





Preferred Qualifications






    • Ph.D. in communication studies or closely related field








    • Commitment to excellence in teaching and student engagement; Ability to teach face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels





Proposed Salary


Salary is commensurate with experience.
