Job Summary:

The Program Director will develop strategic objectives and goals and implement aligned strategies for the Cytomics Data Science Program in the Department of Pediatrics, Section of Child Neurology and associated institutional partners, international and national research groups, and scientific societies.

The Program Director will report to Program leadership, including the Scientific Director and the Section Chief for Child Neurology in the Department of Pediatrics, and will work regularly with Principal Investigators in the Section of Child Neurology and at CU Anschutz School of Medicine.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop strategic objectives and goals and implement aligned strategies for the cytomics data science Program.
  • Provide Program support to Section leadership and Investigators Building multi-institutional teams in the US and internationally.
  • Oversee Program and anticipate and meet compliance and strategic needs Development and management of multi-institutional research agreements.
  • Develop new Research Agreements and lead execution of existing Program Agreements.
  • The Program Director is expected to lead a team of eight (8) total team members.

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, engineering, or related field.
    • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • Six (6) years of professional-level research experience in cytomics / high dimensional cytometry (e.g., mass cytometry, spectral flow cytometry, multiplex imaging).*
  • Two (2) years of supervisory or team management experience in a scientific research setting.*

*Experience may be obtained simultaneously.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Condition of Employment:
  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check.
  • Some domestic and international travel is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Four years of supervisory or team management experience in a scientific research setting.
  • At least 4 years of experience as a Program Coordinator or similar in a strategic alliance and/or logistics role developing, executing, and reporting on high-value multi-institutional projects (e.g., U or P grants, international research agreements).
  • Some experience co-authoring peer-reviewed scientific publications, presenting for multi-institutional research teams, assembling research progress reports, and presenting at international meetings to report findings from research projects.
  • MBA or active enrollment in an MBA Program.
  • International business training and experience with international multi-center teams.
  • Experience in data science for clinical/translational research and familiarity with international research societies, research institutions, and vendors in the life sciences industry with relevant networks in high dimensional cytometry.
  • Track record of developing multi-institutional research and data use and transfer agreements.
  • Experience directing data science team members from multiple laboratories on projects generating and integrating multiple data types and sharing data using cloud tools and repositories (e.g., Cytobank, FlowRepository).
  • Experience directing data science team members depositing and maintaining code on GitHub and/or developing R/Shiny web apps.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability and confidence to effectively function independently, be a self-starter, and be a team player within a collaborative organization.
  • Other required skills include creativity, excellent communication (written and oral) skills, strong math and quantitative skills, strong financial analysis, and strategic and innovative thinking capabilities.
  • Must have successfully trained and led project team members in previous positions.
  • Ability to effectively present to the leadership level of internal and external organizations.
  • High EQ and experience building strong relationships with diverse team members across all levels of organizational seniority, between departments and schools, and between institutions.
  • Expertise in data science and machine learning methods for cytomics, including dimensionality reduction, clustering, and cell type annotation using Marker Enrichment Modeling (MEM) or similar computational tools.
  • Relevant business skills and knowledge, including strategic, financial, marketing, and operational expertise are preferred.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting hiring range for this position has been established as $78,83 to $100,273.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
