General Description:
Under general supervision, assists in the coordination of a variety of custodial work, equipment movement, set-up and general building and maintenance work; assists in the assigning, scheduling, inspection, and supervision of other custodians and student assistants; performs technical custodial work as required.
Examples of Duties
Essential Functions:
- Assists in the supervision, scheduling and training of custodial staff assigned to an evening shift
- Accepts requests for emergency repairs and takes corrective action
- Receives requests for furniture and equipment set-ups and assigns special work as required
- Assumes responsibility for seeing that the instructions of the Operations and Grounds Director are carried out on the shift to which assigned
- Insures that the areas for which he/she is responsible are maintained in a clean, orderly and safe condition
- Participates and oversees such activities as sweeping, polishing, mopping, waxing, disinfecting, and similar tasks
- Performs minor repairs and maintenance of buildings and equipment
- May perform minor maintenance on desks and other types of instructional equipment
- Reports unsatisfactory to dangerous situations to the appropriate authority
- Keeps records and submits reports on activities
- Coordinated sanding, sealing, painting of gym and other hardwood floors
- Solves minor problems in floor care such as carpet damage and floor stains
- Coordinates window cleaning on multi-storied buildings
- Maintains material safety data sheets
- Other related duties as assigned
Knowledge of:
- Cleaning supplies, methods, materials, and practice
Ability to:
- Speak, read and write standard English
- Carry out oral and written directions
- Work independently
- Perform heavy physical labor
- Lift up to 60 pounds
- Stand and walk for long periods
- Climb stairs
- Train and oversee the work of student assistants
- Work cooperatively with others
- Promote and incorporate culturally affirming DEIA and anti-racist principles to nurture and create a respectful, inclusive, and equitable learning and work environment. In conducting their duties, staff members shall respect and acknowledge the diversity of students and colleagues.
Typical Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or GED AND four (4) year applicable experience
OR - High school diploma AND three (3) years applicable experience AND applicable certifications
OR - Associate's degree AND at least one (1) year of applicable experience
OR - The equivalent education and experience.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
License or Certificate
- Possession of valid California driver's license
