Description:
The University Honors Program and the Writing and Reasoning Program at SMU seek a full-time lecturer to teach Honors composition, critical reasoning, and other Honors courses as needed. The position is non-tenure track, but renewable in three year contracts. The initial appointment is for one year.

The University Honors Program (UHP) prepares undergraduate students for their future by emphasizing a broad-based education in the humanities and sciences, and fosters a culture of intellectual curiosity. The courses taught are designed to help students develop strong writing and critical reasoning skills. Each lecturer will be asked to teach Honors WRTR courses primarily, with the occasional assignment to teach one of the other Honors courses.

The normal teaching load is 4/4, with the successful candidate participating in the following responsibilities of the Honors Program:

*Collaborate with other colleagues as a team or unit in arriving at a consensus for the semester's readings and assignments

*Follow the common syllabus for WRTR 2305 and 2306 (or other UHP courses)

*Work toward the agreed upon common assignments that fulfill curricular requirements

*Attend the Honors WRTR faculty meetings--weekly or biweekly, as determined by the faculty director

*Share syllabi and assignments (paper assignments, discussion prompts, etc.) on the Canvas Honors Faculty Course

*Be available for (and encourage) student meetings outside of class--which includes posted office hours

*Return to students graded coursework in a timely manner

*Hold in-person conferences with each student for at least two of the major essay assignments

*Participate in the pre-fall semester Honors & Scholars Common Reading Program

*Attend at least two Honors events per semester
