Position Information

Hiring Department: Outreach Programs - Upward Bound

Posting End Date: Applications will be accepted through 11:59 PM CDT on 7/31/2024.

Hours: 40 hours per week, Tuesday - Saturday 8:00am- 5:00pm, flexibility is required on evenings.

FLSA status: Exempt

Earliest Start Date: As soon as possible.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and education.

A valid driver's license issued by the State where the applicant resides, and insurability as defined in UTS 157 may be required to perform the position's essential functions.



Purpose of Position

Assist with all program planning, implementation and reporting processes, in accordance with the federal grant mandates and institutional requirements.

Essential Functions

Serve as the official recruiter for the program by developing recruitment strategies and materials, working with the schools in the target area to schedule presentations, retrieving data, following up on referrals, etc. and creating enrollment files for each applicant/prospective student



Responsible for recruiting and enrolling the specified number of students the program is funded to serve annually



Responsible for all aspects of the YISD students' application and admissions processes, probationary period monitoring and exit interviews



Monitor & track the students' grades and progress toward graduation by accessing the students' report cards and transcripts through collaborations with Ysleta ISD (or any grant district) administrations and/or authorized contacts at the high schools.



Prepare academic summary reports as needed and provide data to the school district(s) and individual campuses.



Provide academic advising to the students and monitor grade improvement processes with the assistance of the students' high school instructors, counselors, and or campus contacts.



Take the lead in developing and administering an ESL program for UB. Will oversee the program, monitor student progress, and ensure proper documentation as per grant requirements.



Monitor and record the students' Saturdays and summer program attendance; as well as extra-curricular school activities and/or sport schedules that conflict with program attendance.



Manage the students' monthly stipend process by monitoring attendance/participation and providing the necessary documentation for the request, security and distribution of funds.



Assist in the planning and execution of the annual College Visits Tours, field trips, and cultural excursions in the fall, spring, and summer and serves as the supervisor on all participant trips.



Develops connections/networks with community and campus partners to establish cross-agency programs that will enhance the participant experience.



Coordinates the application procedures for supplementary/partner programs like the University of Texas-Arlington Upward Bound Math & Science program, the summer STEM component programs (ExciTES, ExciTES Challenge, Weather Camp, EarthTech camp, Texas Tech health sciences camps, LSPI (Law School Preparation Institute), the National Hispanic Institute programs, IC CAE, etc.



Responsible for data input pertinent to the creation of the annual performance report & grant proposals.



Provide student supervision for all on and off-campus activities.



Assist students with processes pertaining to their college readiness instruction, college admissions and financial aid processes, letter recommendations, advising, etc.



Serve as the program representative and liaison with Ysleta ISD target school administrators, instructors, and staff.



Abides by district policies, procedures, and develops programming based on district variations in policies. Notifies departmental staff of all applicable district changes, as necessary.



Serve as mentor/advisor to the Upward Bound Student Govt. Association and Community Service Committee



Supervise the program's Undergraduate Assistants in the performance of their duties during Saturday class days, program field trips and college visits tours.

Coordinates the preparation of management and productivity reports and studies.

Establishes goals and objectives; develops and coordinates evaluation activities.

Coordinates the implementation of techniques for evaluating business functions or division or department activities.

Coordinates, monitors, and evaluates policies and procedures and monitors compliance with policies and procedures.

Identifies areas of needed change and makes recommendations to improve operations.

May coordinate staff development plans and activities.

May represent the business function, division, or department at meetings, conferences, and seminars or committees.

Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.



Complies with all State and University policies.



Other duties may be assigned.



Supervisory Responsibilities Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's objectives, policies and applicable laws.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Required Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree.

and

Experience: Four (4) years of related experience and/or training to the essential duties and responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Occasional traveling required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's Degree and Bilingual in English and Spanish
