The department of Chicano and Latino Studies at Sonoma State University invites applications for a full-time tenure track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor to begin Fall 2020. We are interested in a teacher-scholar whose work focuses on Chicanx-Latinx Studies and comparative literature, with preference given to candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas: Chicanx-Latinx Literature, Mexican Literature, Central American Literature, Border Literature and Latinx rhetorical and compositional traditions. We welcome applicants with varied research interest within this broad area, including but not limited to Critical Race Studies, Feminist Studies, Indigeneity Studies, and Afro-Latinx Studies. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Chicanx-Latinx Studies, Ethnic Studies, or a closely related field, be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching and research, and pose strong interdisciplinary skills.

THE UNIVERSITY

FACULTY RESPONSIBILITIES
In addition to teaching and scholarship, faculty are expected to engage in service to the department, school, and community. Sonoma State is committed to the Teacher/Scholar model and places an emphasis on faculty support of student research. Faculty are also encouraged to participate in our distinctive, high-impact Freshman and Sophomore year programs and to foster our commitment to the CSU Graduation Initiative 2025 through excellent teaching, advising, and mentoring. Aligned with the California Faculty Association Collective Bargaining Agreement, during the first 2 years of the probationary period the instructional assignment will be reduced by 2 courses per academic year. THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Chicano and Latino Studies offers students an interdisciplinary curriculum that centers on the experiences of Chicano and Latinos in many areas of contemporary American society, including politics, education, literature, the arts, and religion. The focus is on gaining greater insight into the relationship between historical, social, political, and ideological circumstances and Latinx cultures and identities. The major considers the historical and contemporary experiences of Chicanos and Latinos in the United States.
DUTIES OF THE POSITION
The primary professional responsibilities of the faculty member will be teaching, research, scholarship, and or creative activity, and service to the University. These responsibilities generally include; advising students, participation in campus and systemwide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions. The successful candidate will initially be expected to teach lower division courses and upper-division courses (12 units per semester). In addition, the candidate will teach courses in their area of expertise. Faculty members are expected to mentor students, engage the broader community, and maintain an active research profile.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates should have a demonstrated record of excellence in scholarly research as well as teaching. They should also demonstrate a vision for building an interdisciplinary Chicano and Latino Studies Department, and have relevant leadership experience. In addition to scholarship, teaching, and program building, responsibilities will include service to department, school, and the university.

To be recommended for tenure, the candidate must demonstrate satisfactory performance in four areas: (1) teaching effectiveness; (2) research, scholarship, and creative achievement; (3) service to the University; and (4) public service and service to the community. Tenure may be granted at any time, but contract provisions specify that he normal period of probation shall be a total of six (6) years full-time probationary service and credited service, if any. Any deviation from the normal six (6) year probationary period shall be the decision of the President following his/her consideration of recommendations from the department or equivalent and appropriate administrator(s). Tenure is required for promotion above the level of Associate Professor.
RANK AND SALARY
Salary, service credit, and rank depends upon academic preparation and professional experience. The salary range for this position is: $77,000 - $84,673.
