Salary and Benefits
The anticipated starting salary placement depends on qualifications, experience and salary budget, and will not exceed $4,879 a month.
This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 14 paid holidays are offered each year; 13 scheduled on specific days and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the year.

Under general direction of Director, Campus Life Programs, it is the responsibility of the Sports Clubs Campus Life Advisor (CLA) to serve as the primary advisor providing comprehensive advising and leadership to 120+ student clubs/organizations and advisors; create, initiate and implement educational programming and activities for student organizations; provide oversight in the planning and implementation of leadership development programs, awards and activities for student organizations; provide training and oversight to on-campus special events and activities pertaining to student organizations; assist in the assessment efforts of the center and the greater student life offerings; interpret University Policy applicable to student organizations; act as a liaison between the University and student organizations; participate in programming sponsored by SSU's Campus Life areas; and serve as a port of the comprehensive campus life team. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for providing comprehensive advising and leadership to 20+ sports clubs with duties including, but not limited to, coordinating fields, coach contracts, and trainers for high risk games/tournaments.
Major duties of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Work with other Campus Life Advisors on the annual chartering and oversight of 120+ student clubs/organizations including academic, social, religious, multicultural, honor societies and sport organizations.
- Serve in an advisory capacity to SSU's student organizations providing direction and advising in organizational, leadership, program development, risk management, membership recruitment, fundraising, and other club related issues as they arise.
- Provide leadership and advising to sports club officers, advisors, and coaches to ensure sport clubs stay student-directed and student-run.
- Develop and present resources and educational programs for student organization advisors, national officials and campus administrators.
- Create and maintain campus life published material relevant to student organizations, their advisors and the campus community (including print and web-based).
- Maintain ongoing communication with student organizations through newsletters, electronic communication and social media.
- Oversee data collection and database management for oil student organizations and campus life programs.
- Assist in the development and implementation of assessment activities relevant to student organization programs/activities as well as various student life offerings.
- Mentor and support student employees in their various roles within campus life.
- Interpret and implement University policies and procedures as they relate to student organizations and campus life.
- Evaluates and recommends policies and procedures for student clubs and organizations.
- Participate in all relevant campus life programs; champion, implement, and present educational materials at Campus Life initiated programs.
- Provide support to the campus elections process any special University election referendum.
- Provide support to Greek Life and General Clubs, as need.
- Work with sports clubs to hire coaches, schedule games and coordinate trainers.
- Collaborate with Associated Students, the Student Health Center, the Sports Management department and trainers to develop and implement a concussion baseline and protocol for all sports teams.
- Research and initiate assessment activities that will enhance student organizations, leadership and campus life.
- Serve on campus-wide committees and advisory boards.
- Serve as campus liaison for student organizations and the campus community.
- Respond to general campus life inquiries.
- Track relevant accounts, purchasing, and administrative requirements.
- Actively engage and collaborate with other campus life program areas to encourage and develop coalition-building opportunities. Additionally, the Campus Life advisor will provide general support to University wide collaborative programs for freshman, residence halls, and admissions as needed.
Performs other secondary duties as assigned.
Duties take place primarily in an office setting located at Sonoma State University, however may include working indoors and outdoors when necessary to support the department. The normal work schedule is Monday through Friday aligned with regular campus hours. As an exempt employee you have some flexibility in your schedule, however, you must be available during the regular campus hours Monday through Friday to meet the operational needs of the campus and department. Your specific start time is determined by your Appropriate Administrator. Evening and weekend hours may be required and will be specified only by the supervisor to meet operational needs. The incumbent must maintain regular and acceptable attendance, as is determined by the Appropriate Administrator. The position may require occasional travel, by automobile and airplane, and the incumbent must be able to work some night and weekend hours with overnight stays.
Qualifications
Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. At least one year experience with club sports, or other related field highly preferred. Demonstrated high level of interest for club sports, fitness and recreation highly preferred. This position requires the equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related. A master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of work experience.
Thorough knowledge of the principles or individual and group behavior, and the ability to articulate the purpose of Student Affairs, student success, and academic advising programs. General knowledge of the practices, procedures, and trends in Student Affairs, student success, and academic advising programs, with demonstrated experience and knowledge of programs and resources that support the persistence and academic success of college students, particularly at risk student populations. General knowledge of individual counseling techniques; general knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge, of the organizational procedures and activities which the position is assigned. Intermediate proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), and Google Suite required. Knowledge of databases and student information systems. PeopleSoft preferred. EAB-SSC Navigate preferred. Bilingual in English/Spanish highly preferred.

Must have the ability to effectively communicate with all levels within the university and establish and maintain productive and effective, inclusive working relationships amongst diverse populations including staff, faculty, administration, students, and other internal and external constituents. Must be able to accept constructive feedback and work cooperatively in group situations.
