Salary and Benefits
The anticipated starting salary placement depends on qualifications, experience and salary budget, and will not exceed $5,565 a month.

This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 14 paid holidays are offered each year; 13 scheduled on specific days and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the year.

Under general supervision of the Director of Campus Life Programs, the Leadership Programs Coordinator (LPC) performs highly complex professional Student Services work and is responsible for all aspects of the design, coordination, and implementation of a comprehensive, multi-faceted Seawolf Leadership Program and all aspects of the Student Involvement General Clubs and Organizations Program. The incumbent serves as primary lead in the development, implementation and oversight of the Leadership program with a focus on emerging, intermediate and advanced leaders, and is responsible for working with campus entities to help develop leadership and growth opportunities. This position develops and oversees the two-day student-led Emerging Leader retreat, as well as various retreat and workshop opportunities for club leaders and multicultural/underrepresented leaders. This position assists in the development and implementation efforts of the Seawolf Leadership Program and Campus Life initiatives. In addition, this position serves as the primary advisor providing comprehensive advising and leadership to 120+ student clubs/organizations and advisors; creates, initiates and implements educational programming and activities for student organizations; provides oversight in the planning and implementation of leadership development programs, awards and activities for student organizations; provides training and oversight to on-campus special events and activities pertaining to student organizations; assists in the assessment efforts of the center and the greater student life offerings; interprets University Policy applicable to student organizations; serves as a liaison between the University and student organizations; participates in programming sponsored by SSU's Campus Life areas; and serves as a port of the comprehensive Campus Life team.

Major duties of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Develop, design, coordinate and implement a comprehensive tiered Seawolf Leadership program for the division of Student Affairs.
  • Develop, implement and provide oversight of a leadership mentor/coaching program comprised of individuals who serve as coaches to emerging, intermediate and advanced students.
  • Participate in programming sponsored by SSU's Student Activities and Student Involvement.
  • Develop, implement and provide oversight of a two-day student-led Emerging Leader retreat, as well as various retreat and workshop opportunities for club leaders and multicultural/underrepresented leaders.
  • Work with the Campus Life Advisor to provide support for all clubs and organizations in the Campus Life prevue.
  • Develop, implement and provide oversight of student leadership development program, including leadership retreats, leadership recognition programs and workshops.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with students and campus community via newsletters, electronic communication and social media.
  • Oversee data collection and database management for the student leadership program, student organizations and campus life programs.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of assessment activities relevant to student organization programs/activities, campus leadership program and other relevant student affairs/campus life initiatives.
  • Serve in a leadership capacity with student employees through various leadership, mentor and support roles;
  • Interpret and implement University policies and procedures as they relate to student leadership programs, student organizations and campus life.
  • Evaluate and recommend policies and procedures as they relate to student clubs, organizations and student leadership program offerings.
  • Participate in all relevant Student Involvement programs; plan, implement, and present educational materials at Student Involvement initiated programs.
  • Serve as campus liaison for student organizations and campus community.
  • Respond to general Student Involvement inquiries.
  • Track relevant accounts, purchases, and other administrative requirements.
  • Responsible for the annual chartering and oversight of 120+ student clubs and organizations including academic, social, religious, multicultural, honor societies and sport organizations.
  • Serve in an advisory capacity to SSU's student organizations providing direction and advising in organizational, leadership, program development, risk management, membership recruitment, fundraising, and other club related issues as they arise.
  • Develop resources and educational programs for student organization advisors, notional officials and campus administrators.
  • Create and maintain campus life published material relevant to student organizations, their advisors and the campus community (including print and web-based).
  • Research and initiate assessment activities that enhance student organizations, leadership and campus life.
  • Actively engage and collaborate with other Student Involvement program areas to encourage and develop coalition-building opportunities.
  • Provide general support to University wide collaborative student programs.

    Performs other secondary duties as assigned.

    Duties take place mostly in an office setting located at Sonoma State University. The normal work schedule is Monday through Friday aligned with regular campus hours. As an exempt employee you have some flexibility in your schedule however must be available during the regular campus hours Monday through Friday to meet the operational needs of the campus and department. Your specific start time is determined by your Appropriate Administrator. Evening and weekend hours may be required and will be specified only by the supervisor to meet operational needs. The incumbent must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such levels as is determined by the Appropriate Administrator. The position may require occasional travel, by automobile and airplane, and the incumbent must be able to work some night and weekend hours with overnight stays.

    Qualifications
    Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field plus upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing and conflict resolution where such are job related. A master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or a job related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling, guidance or a job related field may be substituted for two years of the required professional experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional, personal or career counseling. Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent to four years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience which includes experience in advising students individually and in groups, and in analysis and resolution of complex student services problems. Working knowledge of General Clubs/Organizations Management highly preferred. Knowledge and experience working with and advising student-led leadership development programs highly preferred. Knowledge and understanding of student development theory and student personnel administration highly preferred. Intermediate proficiency with computers, Google Suite and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) required. Knowledge of PeopleSoft preferred.

    The successful candidate must have thorough knowledge of practices and procedures of a professional Student Services program; be able to work collaboratively and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of students, faculty, staff and the general public. Must possess the demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other programs and/or service areas. Must have the ability to work both independently and as a collaborative team member. Must have demonstrated experience working with diverse student populations. Must have the ability to be innovative and resourceful in planning and implementing long-term needs. Must be able to work in a rapidly changing environment where constructive feedback from others is encouraged and adapt well to change. The incumbent must be able to take initiative and be resourceful to plan work and implement long-range planning improvements. Must be able to be flexible with working with multiple ideas and approaches. Must have demonstrated conflict resolution and mediation skills. Must be able to organize, prioritize and multitask in a timely manner. Intermediate computer proficiency with MS Office, database programs, internet and email is required, including the ability to quickly and willingly learn new computer programs.

    Must have ability to carry out very complex assignments without detailed instructions in situations where guidelines and precedents may or may not exist; interpret and apply program rules and regulations; advise students individually or in groups on varied and complex matters; determine the appropriate course of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals and groups in personal interactions of a sensitive nature; reason logically and analyze and solve organizational, policy or procedural and operating problems; plan, coordinate and initiate actions necessary to implement administrative or group decisions or recommendations; analyze and define complex organizational, policy or procedural problems, collect and evaluate data, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action; understand the roles and responsibilities of others and to gauge relationships accordingly by taking into account the variety of the interrelationships, motivations and goals of the members of the organization served; and establish and maintain effective, cooperative and harmonious working relationships in circumstances which involve the denial of requests or the necessity to persuade others to accept a different point of view. Must have demonstrated experience working with diverse student populations and ability to set and follow boundaries in working closely with student groups.

    Must have the ability to effectively communicate with all levels within the university and establish and maintain productive and effective, inclusive working relationships amongst diverse populations including staff, faculty, administration, students, and other internal and external constituents. Must be able to accept constructive feedback and work cooperatively in group situations.
