Position Summary:
The primary location of this position is the Cullowhee, NC campus. This position is designated as being exempt from the State of North Carolina Human Resources Act (EHRA).

The Center for Career and Professional Development is seeking an Assistant Director of Employer Engagement who will nurture employer relationships that yield high-quality internship and job opportunities for WCU students.

The Assistant Director serves as part of a team serving regional, statewide, and national employer partners interested in recruiting Western Carolina University students. This position will help to cultivate relationships, build programming, and enhance the ways students and employers interact.

This position will collaborate with the Associate Director of Employer Engagement to develop outreach strategies for regional partners, aiming to increase the number and range of employers engaging with WCU. They will also collaborate with other team members to plan and implement large-scale recruiting activities, such as career fairs, interview days, panel discussions, and shadowing trips. This position will also manage our job posting software system, ensuring employers and the campus community fully utilize it.

The Assistant Director will need to have a "can-do" attitude and be willing to develop and grow the program while also participating in various other activities within the center. The Assistant Director must possess independent judgment and decision-making skills, as well as superb communication and writing capabilities, strong organizational skills, practical problem-solving abilities, the ability to build relationships, and a solid understanding of technology.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for this position:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Candidates must be legally eligible to work in the United States of America without the need for any employer-sponsored immigration assistance.
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters degree from an accredited institution.
  • Proficiency in Symplicity or Handshake or other CSM software, with the ability to accurately enter data, manage records, and generate reports.
  • Two or more years of experience in career services, employer relations, or recruitment, with a proven track record of developing employer/university partnerships.
