Description:
Position No. 00050079. The Department of Physics at Southern Methodist University (SMU) invites applications for one (1) non- tenure-track full-time Visiting Lecturer position. Applicants should present evidence of strong interest in teaching and interacting with a diverse group of undergraduate students. In addition, successful candidates should have strong communication and organizational skills. The start date for the position is expected to be August 1, 2025, and will extend for one year thru July 31, 2026. The appointment may be renewed for a second year contingent on funding and performance.

The focus of the position is on, but not limited to, teaching undergraduate introductory general Physics laboratories. The hired individual will be the instructor of record for the labs and be responsible for preparation of lab manuals and other materials for the labs. They will provide training for the graduate student teaching assistants and have overall responsibility for grading. The expected teaching loads of the position will be the equivalent of four courses per semester, and training is provided.

Annual compensation is $60,000 with full benefits. During the academic year, the Visiting Lecturer will be expected to live in the Dallas area and hold no other professional or academic obligations. Qualifications:
Qualifications:

A completed PhD or MS degree in Physics or a related discipline is required. Experience in teaching undergraduate general physics laboratory courses, or experience as a general physics laboratory teaching assistant (TA), is preferred. Experience in the operation of typical physics introductory laboratory equipment and instrumentation is preferred.
