THE DEPARTMENT:

Outreach, Recruitment & Educational Partnerships (OREP) is responsible for outreach and recruitment of prospective domestic undergraduate students and plays a key role in enrollment planning and reporting. OREP is charged with promoting the image of the University, it's programs and uniqueness; attracting and recruiting a diverse and high achieving pool of applicants; developing relationships and collaborations with campus external and internal constituents; and, providing timely, accurate and comprehensive services to students and campus through point of inquiry and enrollment. OREP is responsible for compliance with federal, state, CSU system and University requirements and the timely and accurate dissemination of information to students, parents, campus constituents, the CSU Chancellor's Office, and the external community. OREP provides dedicated quality outreach and recruitment programs and strategic communication to prospective students, schools and community organizations and the delivery of student services that support recruitment, college readiness, and persistence. Programs include domestic undergraduate outreach, out-of-state recruitment, and campus tour programs. OREP reports to the Presidential Associate for Community Partnerships and Expanding Access in the Office of the President.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Recruitment and Marketing:
  • Conduct visits at high schools in assigned service area to provide current information on educational opportunities available at Cal Poly Pomona, CPP admissions procedures and entrance requirements, CPP majors and academic programs, financial assistance including merit based aid, housing, student life, athletic programs and career opportunities.
  • Conduct communication with prospective students in a virtual environment, using computers to initiate admissions "chat'' sessions, virtual college fairs, and other virtual recruitment and social networking methods.
  • Represent and speak formally on behalf of CPP and the California State University system at college advisement programs in assigned schools.
  • Arrange and make presentations to prospective students and their parents. Respond to questions in front of large and small audiences. Interact effectively with students, staff, faculty, administrators and the general public. Provide input on the development of new recruitment, communication and yield efforts

Event Participation and Workshop Coordination:
  • Represent CPP at recruitment and yield events such as college fairs, parent nights, application workshops, preview days and other related programs.
  • Assist with coordinating outreach, recruitment and yield related projects and events.
  • Coordinates workshops and presentations in regards to admissions, AB540 policies, financial aid, and others as assigned.
  • Provides assistance for prospective students at school sites and on campus

Admission Advising:
  • Conducts appointments with prospective students, parents, and other family members on campus in the office as well as in assigned community colleges.

College and Programs Liaison:
  • As assigned, assist in the development and facilitation of collaborative programs that further the department, divisional, and campus goals.
  • Serve as a department liaison between the department and assigned college(s)/programs/projects by attending planning meetings, meeting with prospective program students, and conducting presentations and workshops under the admissions and outreach purview.

Other:
  • Submit written summaries on recruitment activities including visits, office appointments, special programs and activities, workshops and conferences as they are completed.
  • Write reports and assist in the preparation and evaluation of data reports for recruitment purposes. Attends staff meetings and trainings as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree - Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. and
  • Valid In State Driver License Required
  • Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
  • Working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of the program to which assigned; general knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management. General knowledge of research and interview techniques; and of the principles of individual and group behavior.
  • Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements; obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews; reason logically; collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data; advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required; recognize multicultural, multisexed and multi-aged value systems and work accordingly; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts; and, rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of the campus to which assigned. Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas Services Office.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must have excellent communication skills through a variety of modes that include verbal, written and presentational; demonstrates effective listening skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and social skills in dealing with a diversity of people; the ability to work independently; to use good judgment, initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments; attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Must have the ability to present and articulate complex requirements and policies concerning enrollment services; be able to respond to in-person, telephone and electronic inquiries.
  • Bilingual in any one of the following languages: Spanish, Chinese Mandarin, Vietnamese, Korean, Hmong, Sign Language, or Tagalog.

CSU Classification Salary Range

This position is part of the APC bargaining unit 4. The CSU Classification Standards for this position are located on the CSU Classification Standards website.The CSU Salary Schedule is located on the CSU Salary Schedule website. The classification salary range for this position according to the respective skill level is: minimum $5,083 and maximum $7,228 per month. University Driving Requirement

Positions that require driving for university business by using a personal or state vehicle must comply with the Authorized University Driver Policy. Driving records are monitored and evaluated by the Risk Management Department. The Risk Management Department evaluates a good driving report based on the following criteria. The driver must: 1. Have a valid California or other State Driver's license. 2. Have no more than 3 motor vehicle violations or been the cause of 3 accidents in a 12-month period (or any combination of 3 thereof) 3. Not have more than 3 DMV Points, if their license is Class C or, 4. Not have more than 5 DMV Points, if their license is Class A, B, or C with endorsements.
