Job Description

Goal

The Residential Life portion of the Precollege Programs helps participants to become acclimated to living on a college campus by providing a safe and welcoming environment, fostering strong relationships with peers and mentors, and maintaining an atmosphere where participants are taken seriously and inspired to excel.

Primary Function

Assist the residential manager in overseeing and supervising the Residential Life portion of Precollege Programs at Smith College. Manage a house of students. Assist in supervising house managers and Smith College undergraduate assistants. Maintain high standards of health and safety. Ensure that employment and program policies are followed and activities and social events are in line with the mission and rules of Smith College. Assist in communicating and coordinating directly with parents and guardians, the Health Center, and academic directors, when necessary. Act as the Residential Manager in their absence.

Essential Job Functions

65% House Management: Manage a house of precollege participants and undergraduate student workers. Support participants as they adjust to life on campus - including intervention and mediation of conflicts. Help establish opportunities to bring participants together to foster an understanding of diversity, inclusion and equity and promote youth empowerment. Plan weekly house manager meetings and other meetings, as needed. Be a role model to all staff in your attitude, behavior and work ethic.

35% Support House Managers and Undergraduates: Mentor House Managers and Smith College undergraduates in their staff positions, including in their mentorship role with participants. Help provide framework and feedback to promote equity, inclusivity and community within each house. Assist in leading training sessions during house management and all-staff training weeks.

Details

This full-time, seasonal, six-week position runs June 22 - August 3, 2025. Thirty-five to forty hours per week, including room and board. Most hours are in the evenings. Weekends required. The pay rate starts at $22 per hour and is commensurate with experience. Living on campus through the duration of employment is required. Participation in all health and safety protocols is required. Housing is for employees only in a residence hall with shared entry. Work on the 4th of July is required. The position is not eligible for holiday pay.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required. At least two years of experience living on-site and working as a residential supervisor in a high school, camp, or college setting. First Aid and CPR certifications are required.
