Seeking a highly organized, reliable, clinically savvy, and creative research assistant to assist with the implementation and administration of a forthcoming multisite comparative effectiveness randomized clinical trial (RCT) across three VA Healthcare Systems. The RCT will compare two brief counseling interventions (RISE vs. advocacy-based enhanced care as usual) for VA patients who experience intimate partner violence (i.e., physical, psychological, and sexual violence from a past or current intimate partner). The research assistant will be a key member of the local VA Boston team that is overseeing the entirety of the research project across the three study sites, as well as leading local participation at the VA Boston Healthcare System. RISE is an individualized, evidence-based, and trauma-informed intervention for people who experience IPV. The research assistant will support the project coordinator, project director, and the study PI (Dr. Katherine Iverson) in all aspects of study implementation both locally and with the additional two study sites. Duties include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Implement project procedures including, but not limited to, ensuring study protocols are followed, working with Dr. Iverson and the research team at VA Boston and other sites.
  • Maintain research databases, perform administrative tasks such as schedule meetings and taking notes in interview or meetings, and assist with compiling, drafting, and submitting IRB and other required documentation to meet research compliance standards or funding requirements.

  • Assist in data collection activities, including recruiting and making screening calls to participants, assisting with preparing and tracking study related mailings and outreach, preparing and ensuring participants receive complete baseline and follow-up assessments, processing participant incentive payments, and supporting and communicating with research participants via mail, e-mail, telephone, videoconferencing.
  • Conduct literature searches and/or main reference databases to support project goals and planning.
  • Review and edit reports, presentations, and manuscripts, including the development of data tables and visual graph and chart representations of study findings


Setting:

The Women's Health Sciences Division in Boston, MA, specializes in the study of women Veterans and non-Veterans, with a particular focus on understanding gender differences in trauma exposure, trauma and stress in marginalized groups, and interventions for individuals who experience interpersonal violence. Virtual positions will be considered.

Required Skills

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree is required preferably in social science, public health, or a science field, with 1-3 years of experience. Master's degree in psychology, epidemiology, public health, anthropology, or a closely related discipline strongly considered; public speaking experience and skills; outstanding communication and organizational skills. Strong computer literacy, PowerPoint, and strong organizational skills are a must.

Time Commitment:

This is not a contracted position, but a candidate interested in a non-binding commitment of five years would be considered ideal.
