This position serves as the coordinator of program activities funded by the grant.
Job Description:
The Program Coordinator's responsibilities include assisting the RISE Program Directors in administering of the program; planning strategies to achieve the stated program goals, specifically, to generate a pool of strong student researchers for graduate education, with emphasis on underrepresented minority candidates, which will eventually add diversity to the biomedical research work force; directing advertising, recruiting and collaboration effort across campus. Along with the Program Director, the Coordinator will be a primary contact for RISE business at UNCP and beyond. The Coordinator may be asked to assist with other undergraduate research programs as time permits. The Program Coordinator must be able to cope with frequent deadlines and balance multiple tasks and handle heavy workloads.
The coordinator will also monitor student progress towards academic and research goals (direct Fellows' creation of Individual Research Plans; hold regular progress meetings with Fellows); schedule, oversee and when appropriate create and direct meetings, workshops, seminars and other training of RISE Fellows; help administer the grant budget (run Banner reports, maintain internal accounts records); and submit and track purchases and maintain inventory of equipment.
In addition, he/she will assist in nurturing and maintain effective relations with external and internal contacts; coordinate with the external program evaluator to ensure that fellows and mentors are in compliance with evaluation procedures (data collection, primary alumni contact, record keeping); aid in the generation and submission of grant reports (e.g. X-Train, RPPR); maintain & update website and social media sites and create quarterly Newsletter; arrange for student travel (conferences, symposia, graduate school tours, etc.) and accompany students on trips (infrequent); and clerical tasks and other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
This is a time-limited, grant-funded position through March 31, 2029.
Management Preference:
Prefer one year or more of supervisory experience with young adults/students and the ability to to generate high expectations and work levels from students with interest in a career in scientific research. Master's degree appreciated but not required. Prefer experience in implementing state and federal funded programs; designing, implementing and evaluating continuing education programs.
