The University of Maryland invites nominations and applications for the position of Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management.
Reporting to the Senior Vice President and Provost, the Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management (AVP) will build on the considerable momentum and success of a division that has benefited from decades of outstanding leadership. The new AVP will join an experienced team and provide leadership to 153 FTE across the following functional areas: Undergraduate Admission, Student Financial Aid, Registrar, Strategic Initiatives, Enrollment Management Assessment and Technology, and Administrative Services.
The University of Maryland is currently evolving faster than any time in its storied history, and as the title of its strategic plan – Fearlessly Forward – suggests, the University has high aspirations to deepen its impact and reach. The result is a tremendous opportunity for a national thought leader and experienced manager to help shape the future of an institution that is committed to change and progress and dedicated to the public good.
The Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management will be expected to lead the next phase of enrollment at UMD, anticipating the changing and increasingly competitive enrollment landscape and providing leadership to navigate the new emerging complexities that have significantly affected the enrollment space. The AVP will strategically manage and allocate financial aid resources for maximum impact to ensure that UMD's commitment to affordability remains steadfast; prioritizes access, using data analytics and knowledge of the national and international landscape to identify new markets; and develops relationships with schools and community-based organizations to enhance diversity – in all its forms – for the University. Amplifying UMD's impact to advance its competitive position in the marketplace is a priority for the University, and the AVP will pay special attention to improving yield, particularly for specific populations such as students from key out-of-state markets and students from low-income backgrounds. The AVP will also strive to balance undergraduate enrollments across majors, helping to manage limited enrollment programs and recruiting for majors with additional capacity. To achieve these outcomes, the AVP must develop and nurture collaborative partnerships, engaging campus stakeholders in informed dialogues about enrollment opportunities, challenges, and tradeoffs, and help manage relationships with partner community colleges that serve as important sources of both enrollment and diversity. The AVP will also support and develop the experienced and dedicated enrollment team, infusing a sense of synergy, transparency, and common purpose within the division and in alignment with UMD's strategic plan. It is important to note that the Division of Enrollment Management recently implemented Slate as its CRM and the University is in the process of launching Workday, which will require the AVP to be comfortable with technology and systems implementation to effectively advocate for the needs of the university and facilitate a smooth implementation of new software.
The next AVP will be a strategic, visionary, collaborative, entrepreneurial, and dynamic leader with a national and international perspective; demonstrate a collegial and consultative leadership style; share a deep commitment to student success and shared governance; and have demonstrated experience creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for students, staff, and faculty. The ideal candidate will be a savvy user of data, possess excellent communication skills, and have an interest in being a visible member of university life as well as being connected to civic life in the state of Maryland, particularly in Prince Georges' and Montgomery counties, the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan area, and on the national and international stage.
The University of Maryland is a diverse and inclusive community of more than 50,000 fearless Terrapins. As the state's flagship institution, the University is recognized as one of the nation's top 20 public universities, is the nation's first Do Good Campus, and is consistently ranked for its innovation, research, and commitment to inclusive excellence. Propelled by a $1.3 billion joint research enterprise, UMD is dedicated to addressing the grand challenges of our time. Located four miles from Washington, D.C., the University offers an unparalleled student experience with more than 300 academic programs, 25 living-learning programs and 400 study abroad programs. Spurred by a culture of innovation and creativity, its faculty are global leaders in their field and include Nobel laureates, Pulitzer Prize winners, and members of the national academies.
All applications, nominations, and inquiries are invited. Applications should include, as separate documents, a letter of interest addressing the themes in the leadership profile at WittKieffer.com and a CV or resume.
