Under the supervision of the Associate Dean in the Community Education Division, to plan and teach traffic safety curriculum to include the areas of Group Dynamics, Point Reduction, Multiple Offender Program, Defensive Driving. Related duties include curriculum development and course revision; maintenance of supplies, classroom facilities and equipment; participation in division and department activities and the performance of duties as assigned.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
- Manage the classroom/laboratory.
- Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
- Manage equipment, supplies, and materials.
- Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
- Collaborate with the advisory committee in the program area.
- Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
- Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC.
- Support student organizations and activities.
- Develop relationships with business and industry.
- Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
- Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in the field.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Only those who meet all of the base minimum requirements listed below will be considered.
MINIMUM Educational Requirements and Licensure Requirements to Teach Any Traffic Safety Courses:
- High School diploma/GED or higher
- Current driving record within acceptable standards of DOT (Department of Transportation) and Wisconsin DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) standard.
General Traffic Safety Class:
- At least two (2) years (4000 hours) of occupational experience, or a comparable amount of experience and education in the area of traffic safety or a related field, such as driver education, law enforcement, fleet safety management, or experience in a safety related position with the division of motor vehicles.
- Traffic Safety - At least two (2) years (4,000 hours) of occupational experience, or a comparable amount of experience and education in the area of traffic safety or a related field, such as driver education, law enforcement, fleet safety management, or experience in a safety related position with the division of motor vehicles.
- Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) At least two (2) years (4000 hours) of occupational experience or a comparable amount of experience and education in the area of AODA counseling, education, or treatment or related fields, such as Student Assistance Program director or employee assistance program director.
- Group Process - At least two (2) years (4000 hours) occupational experience in group process work or group counseling as a treatment or education professional.
- Qualify to teach at least three (3) group dynamics courses in their entirety OR;
- Education - Bachelor's degree or higher in Guidance counseling, Psychology, Behavioral Studies or Social Work.
- Must meet Group Dynamics Occupation experience (see Trans 106.07)
- Qualify to teach at least three (3) group dynamics courses in their entirety, OR;
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Guidance counseling, Psychology, Behavioral Studies or Social Work.
General Traffic Safety:
- Proof of one college semester or 45-hours in Traffic Safety or Accident Prevention studies
- Certification in General Traffic Safety is preferred at time of hire OR have completed at least 13 (thirteen) hours of observation over a three-week period.
- Traffic Safety - Proof of one college semester or 45-hours in Traffic safety studies or accident prevention
- AODA - Proof of 45 hours in an accredited college level course in the area of AODA education or treatment.
- Group Process - Proof of 45 hours in an accredited college level course in the area of group work methods, group counseling or group process.
- Certification in Group Dynamics is preferred at time of hire OR be able to complete 21 hours of observation in 4-6 weeks from start date.

- Technology-based Instruction - Experience with technology-based instructional delivery systems including SMART symposium, interactive touch screen monitors, LCD projectors, DVD players and/or other classroom technology
- Emerging Technologies - Experience with emerging technologies (eg. social networking applications)
Supplemental Information
Start Date: This position supports the Community Education Division and is available to start during our Spring 2025 semester- mid January.
Hours:/Location: This is a part-time pool position and the number of hours and shift worked per week will vary based on course load and departmental need. This in-person teaching position will be at various campuses locations.
.Salary: Beginning in the fall of 2024 the starting hourly wage for all part-time faculty is $40 per course hour of teaching. Part-time faculty are also compensated for an additional 45 minutes of time for each hour of instruction to cover office hours and prep time which is equivalent to $70 per hour. This starting hourly wage of $40 an hour is non-negotiable unless market conditions dictate otherwise.
